The Foundation

Established in 1953, the Bürgermeister Reuter Stiftung was set up by the then-serving Major, Prof. Dr. Ernst Reuter, as a charitable, non-commercial organization bound to serving the community and, especially, to supporting students, teenagers and retirees.

In this connection, our houses - Ernst Reuter, Walter May and Paul Hertz, along with the youth hostel - are in service in the Berlin districts of Mitte and Wedding. The foundation strives inexpensive and payable dwelling for students, trainees, language students, school, sport and youth groups as well as for an international clientele.

To hold the balance between economical dwelling and cost-covering incomes, requires large efforts and a wise foresight into the economic developments.It is to be owed to the engaged staff that the foundation could maintain its ground as independent institution and did no longer become dependent on public subsidies.The task of the foundation is resumed by approx. 50 employees, i.e. administrative, cleaning and craftsman forces in the spirit of Ernst Reuter for the good and favour of all inhabitants.

An individual financial support in detail is forbidden to the foundation!

However co-operation with other non-profit constitutions is desired.
